One Love Star WHIPPED Unrefined Shea Butter – YouTube

One Love Star Unrefined Shea Butter is already excellent in quality in its natural texture, but I’ve discovered that “whipped” shea butter offers a luxurious, smoother application when applied to the skin.

This whipped organic shea butter is light, creamy, fluffy in texture  and at first glace closely resembles Cool Whip or whipped icing on cake.  Click the video below to see how it turns out after its whipped:

Whipped  shea butter doesn’t take away any of its organic healing properties by any means.  I do not add water, or do anything to the raw shea butter other than the mixer I use to get it to this fluffy consistency.   Due to its raw, unrefined texture nature, sometimes there will be granular remnants of the raw shea butter. This is not an issue. Typically, the granulated bits eventually dissipate as you apply it because shea butter naturally melts to the temperature of your body.

Don’t just take my word for it though. Experience for yourself the smooth, creamy, moisturizing  benefits of One Love Star whipped shea butter.  Order your jar today!

Nuts and It’s Benefits | Shea Butter’s Cousins

I’m really loving how people are becoming more health conscious & I’m learning alot myself as I embark It goes to show that even though our foods are being genetically modified, many people are still making conscious decions to go back to Mother Nature & make more holistic choices to care for their bodies from the inside out.

Today, I ran across an article by  Consciousness TV on  Nuts and It’s Benefits.

The article covred all kinds of nuts from walnuts, almonds, pecans. But butternuts is really what caught my attention. Have you ever heard of those? Butternuts are an endangered member of the walnut family. One ounce of butternuts contains 2.4 g of omega-3. Butternuts, also known as white walnuts, are hard to find and can be expensive. Butternut canker, a fungal disease found throughout the tree’s North American range, has wiped out many native stands of butternut trees in the United States, notes Canada’s Rideau Valley Conservation Authority. If you can find them and are willing to pay, butternuts are an excellent source of ALA omega-3.

What I found interesting is that the karite nut that shea butter is derived from, share some of the similar health properties as their nutty cousins such as  containg a rich amount of fatty acid,  vitamin A&E. They also look kinda similar too.

Fascinating that by applying shea butter that comes from the shea nut tree gives your skin the same health benefits outwardly that eating regualr nuts give you inwardly!

Isn’t that just nutty?

How Is Shea Butter Made?

As I promote this wonderful skin healing product, I noticed that most people never ask how its made. I ran across this video that shows in depth of where shea butter comes from, how its made, & why its considered “organic” & “unrefined.”

What I loved learning abou this the most is the fact that the women/mothers in these villages make their livelyhood from the fruit of this divine tree & prosper because of the wealth of the natural resource the grows in their own backyards! I appreciate their effort in getting up every single day to  havrvest the fruit of this tree so that you & I can have healthy, glowing, beautiful skin!

Mama Africa is still “mothering” us from afar!

51 Amazing Uses for “Baking Soda”

I was at the store a couple days ago, & for some reason I felt compelled to pick up a box of baking soda. I had no real reason or purpose in mind. Just acted on an random thought.
Today, I came across THIS  list.
”I, like Goddo not play with dice and do not believe in coincidence”
  ~V
* Baking Soda, aka sodium bicarbonate, helps regulate PH—keeping a substance neither too acidic nor too alkaline. When baking soda comes in contact with either an acidic or an alkaline substance, it’s natural effect is to neutralize that pH. İt has the ability to retard further changes in the pH balance, known as buffering. ( You can drink 1 tea spoon Baking Soda with a cup of water for Your Body’s Ph Balance )

** Besides showing kindness to aquatic life, we can also protect ourselves from the array of toxins in household cleaning products. Conventional cleansers can expose us to multiple chemicals linked to asthma, cancer, and other documented health problems.

*** Baking soda also makes a perfect stand-in for many personal care products, which are adding their own twist to the toxic tangle of pollutants and personal health (mainly in the form of synthetic fragrance (and it’s almost all synthetic), sodium laurel sulfate, and parabens).

Personal Care
1. Make Toothpaste
A paste made from baking soda and a 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution can be used as an alternative to commercial non-fluoride toothpastes. (Or here’s a formula for a minty version.) You can also just dip your toothbrush with toothpaste into baking soda for an extra boost.

2. Freshen Your Mouth
Put one teaspoon in half a glass of water, swish, spit and rinse. Odors are neutralized, not just covered up.

3. Soak Oral Appliance
Soak oral appliances, like retainers, mouthpieces, and dentures, in a solution of 2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in a glass or small bowl of warm water. The baking soda loosens food particles and neutralizes odors to keep appliances fresh. You can also brush appliances clean using baking soda.

4. Use as a Facial Scrub and Body Exfoliant
Give yourself an invigorating facial and body scrub. Make a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Rub in a gentle circular motion to exfoliate the skin. Rinse clean. This is gentle enough for daily use. (For a stronger exfoliant, try one of these great 5 Homemade Sugar Scrubs.)

5. Skip Harsh Deodorant
Pat baking soda onto your underarms to neutralize body odor.

6. Use as an Antacid
Baking soda is a safe and effective antacid to relieve heartburn, sour stomach and/or acid indigestion. Refer to baking soda package for instructions.

7. Treat Insect Bites & Itchy Skin
For insect bites, make a paste out of baking soda and water, and apply as a salve onto affected skin. To ease the itch, shake some baking soda into your hand and rub it into damp skin after bath or shower. For specific tips on bee stings, see Bee Stings: Prevention and Treatment.

8. Make a Hand Cleanser and Softener
Skip harsh soaps and gently scrub away ground-in dirt and neutralize odors on hands with a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water, or 3 parts baking soda to gentle liquid hand soap. Then rinse clean. You can try this honey and cornmeal scrub for hands too.

9. Help Your Hair
Vinegar is amazing for your hair, but baking soda has its place in the shower too. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda into your palm along with your favorite shampoo. Shampoo as usual and rinse thoroughly–baking soda helps remove the residue that styling products leave behind so your hair is cleaner and more manageable.

10. Clean Brushes and Combs
For lustrous hair with more shine, keep brushes and combs clean. Remove natural oil build-up and hair product residue by soaking combs and brushes in a solution of 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a small basin of warm water. Rinse and allow to dry.

11. Make a Bath Soak
Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to your bath to neutralize acids on the skin and help wash away oil and perspiration, it also makes your skin feel very soft. Epsom salts are pretty miraculous for the bath too, read about the health benefits of epsom salt baths.

12. Soothe Your Feet
Dissolve 3 tablespoons of baking soda in a tub of warm water and soak feet. Gently scrub. You can also make a spa soak for your feet.

Cleaning

13. Make a Surface Soft Scrub
For safe, effective cleaning of bathroom tubs, tile and sinks–even fiberglass and glossy tiles–sprinkle baking soda lightly on a clean damp sponge and scrub as usual. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. For extra cleaning power, make a paste with baking soda, course salt and liquid dish soap—let it sit then scour off.

14. Handwash Dishes and Pots & Pans
Add 2 heaping tablespoons baking soda (along with your regular dish detergent) to the dish water to help cut grease and foods left on dishes, pots and pans. For cooked-on foods, let them soak in the baking soda and detergent with water first, then use dry baking soda on a clean damp sponge or cloth as a scratchless scouring powder. Using a dishwasher? Try these energy saving tips.

15. Freshen Sponges
Soak stale-smelling sponges in a strong baking soda solution to get rid of the mess (4 tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in 1 quart of warm water). For more thorough disinfecting, use the microwave.

16. Clean the Microwave

18. Clean Coffee and Tea Pots

19. Clean the Oven
Sprinkle baking soda onto the bottom of the oven. Spray with water to dampen the baking soda. Let sit overnight. In the morning, scrub, scoop the baking soda and grime out with a sponge, or vacuum, and rinse.

24. Gently Clean Baby Clothes

25. Clean Cloth Diapers
Dissolve ½ cup of baking soda in 2 quarts of water and soak diapers thoroughly.

49. Extinguish Fires
Baking soda can help in the initial handling of minor grease or electrical kitchen fires, because when baking soda is heated, it gives off carbon dioxide, which helps to smother the flames. For small cooking fires (frying pans, broilers, ovens, grills), turn off the gas or electricity if you can safely do so. Stand back and throw handfuls of baking soda at the base of the flame to help put out the fire–and call the Fire Department just to be safe. (And, you should have a fire extinguisher on hand anyway, here’s why.

HairNomics – The Politrix of Black Hair

I ran across Msnbc journalist Melissa Perry’s story and thought it interesting how much popularity of what many are calling the “Natural Hair Movement” is getting!

I know there are some ladies reject that the notion that it is a “movement.” Many, including myself  would contend that its not just a mere movement or trend, but more of an “awakening” & acceptance of the natural opulence of beauty we posesses & a rejection of the european concepts of what has been regarded as “beauty” for far too long.

I’m beyond elated that these discussions about our hair are begining to surface in the mainstream media– especially the economic side of it.

After all,

  • Black hair care is a $9 billion industry.
  • 30% to 34% of all hair products in the U.S. are purchased by black women. And weaves, worn by women of all ethnicities but especially by black women, account for 65% of hair-care revenue!
  • The hair comes from a variety of sources: India, Asia, Russia, Brazil, Mongolia and Malaysia.
  • There are only a handful of black hair care product manufacturers—most are international conglomerates.
  • Korean vendors have cornered the market on the sale and distribution of hair weave through their beauty shops.

Now, since we know that Black women account for 65% of hair-care revenue, why is it that we dont see even ONE percent of Black owned beauty supply stores? The Asian community it capitalizing BIG TIME off of our hair care because they KNOW the value we place on our hair. They also know that no matter how low the economy will get, Black women will ALWAYS make sure she gets her hair done! Thing is, many of them refuse to do business with us & they use their language to lock us out of getting involved in a market that is all about Black beauty! My People, we are seriously missing out on a TREMENDOUS opportunity to help ourselves economically as a group. Since we know that  the Black community is economically disadvantaged, we should be looking toward dominating the market in industries where we spend the MOST! If we could buy from and sell products to ourselves, this would be a  way to help ourselves out of the postion we are in.

This is why see something key here with regard to the new awakening & acceptance of Natural Black hair! I’ve noticied in the price slashing of perms & other chemical products in the Asian beauty supply stores. I would love to think its because our sistars are waking up & realizing that these chemicals have done more harm than good for our hair.

Grassroot startups like Nikki Walton of CurrlyNikki.com & Kim Love of “Kimmytube” & LuvNaturals.com have proven that there is a growing demand for education, tools and techniques that will work to care for OUR  hair. I encourage more Black women to embrace their natural hair, because we need Stylists, unique products, educators — this is a big industry and there’s room for everyone.  I think that going natural is a outstanding way for Black Women to take back the hair/beauty industry! Nobody knows how to care for our hair better than US, so who else SHOULD be reaping the greatest benefit from the BILLION DOLLAR industry on OUR HAIR, other than US??

Getting Over Another Mother’s Day Sadness

My Mama called today.

***Phone rings***

“Hello?”

“This call is a call from a federal prison”

“Dial ’1″ to accept, dial 5 to hang up”

For the past 20 years, these are the words I always hear first, before I hear my mother’s voice.  Gives me time to prepare what I want to say to her. After all, we only have 15 minutes to talk.

Before I could even say a word, she belts out, “Happy Mothers’ Day!”

“Happy Mother’s Day Mama!”

“Did you get my card? She asked.

“Yes Mama, thank you! You’re so consistent! Right on time! I didn’t send you a card, but I sent you some money, which, I figured, you could use more than a card.”

“Well that’s why you’re you & I’m Claudette.”

HA! She always got something ‘fly” to say!

You would think after 20 years gone by I would’ve gotten used to my Mama being out of my life & gotten over her not being around. But every single year, I feel it as if its the first Mothers’s day i had to spend w/out her. Especially when she sends me Mother’s Day cards that read like this:

“You deserve so much more than this card because you have been in my corner more than I thought that you would & God knows how much I appreciate ALL of th sacrifices you’ve made to make sure I’ am alright. Am so for sure Judah & Sha-ray would attest to my exact feelings. You deserve so much happiness but dont give up . Just wait for what God has piled up in stor for you. I wish I was there to do something extraordinary for you, but fo sure, the next one we wil celebrate together.

Make the BEST of this Mother’s Day!

I love & miss ya much!

Love, Moms.”

You know what part that had me tearing up the most?

This: “I wish I was there to do something extraordinary for you, but fo sure, the next one we wil celebrate together.”

She has said this to me EVERY SINGLE YEAR since 1995.

Its the hope I’ve held onto for all these years & have stil yet to see mainfest.

But according to her conversation & the recent refiling of her appeal to the judge stay in the country, I’m confident, that FINALLY, for real this time, 2012 will be the last year we spend this, & every holiday apart. The only thing that ever gets me out of my Mother’s Day funk, are my own children. I can’t seem to really wallow in the saddness of not being able to celebrate my mother like I want to because MY own children need to celebrate me as being their mother & they deserve to see my cheery side.

They never allow me to stay sad, because they wake me up w/such beautiful things like this:

My youngest made the card, my oldest made me bracelet...it GLOWS in the dark!! :}

It touched my heart! Not only that, but they made me waffles, biscuits & eggs! LOL!! These beautiful gestures made me feel so loved & appreciated, that it  gave me just the fuel I needed to pull myself together. So I ate, got up, took a shower, said a sincere heartfelt prayer for my mama, put on my favorite shirt & did what I know she would want me to do: spend time w/my children!  We hopped on the train & headed downtown to LA LIVE to watch The Avengers.

The movie was awesome….we stopped & watched in wonder how  a sand sculpture being made, right in the middle of everything, stopped at Starbucks for some coffee, did some light shopping & made our way back home. What topped the evening off, was the phone call I started the story with.

My mother mentioned that she didn’t call me earlier because she too, had a hard time getting her day started & was emotionally distraught herself. By the end of our 15 min conversation, we both felt a whole lot better & that made closing the day a little more comforting than how it began.  Before we got the “you now have 1 minute remaining interruption/warning, she asked that I not only keep her in prayer, but ask everyone…ANYONE that has a heart & cares, to pray for her strength as well.

You may not know my mother, but if know me, & have a heart for a woman looking to be reunited w/her family after 20 long years of separation, I’d be remiss if I didn’t request that after reading this, please, pray for Mama Claudette! If you don’t pray or know how to, just close your eyes, & send a positive thought out there for her immediate release.  Abundant thanks for your prayers, positive energy & higher thoughts toward my mother’s situation.

Below is what she writes on EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of her letters & inspired me to the fullest!:

“I’m strong enough t rise above most any troubled time

Today may be a mountain, but I was born to climb”

~Claudette Hubbard

If you mother is still in your life, cherish her, she’s the only one you’ll ever have.
If she’s transitioned on to the afterlife, then cherish her memories & honor her by manifesting the very best qualities she instilled in you so that her heart & spirit lives on in this world through you!

Jah Bless!

*****Oh, BTW****

This is a lil “16″ I dropped on a song about my Mama a few years ago prior to me flying to Texas to visit her after not having seen her for 7 years straight. I can’t wait til she’s able to hear it in person. It’s called, “Mama 4 You”….kinda in the spirit of 2Pac’s “Dear Mama”

“If you hate Black People, It’s yourSELF you hate…& the mother who bore you” – Sinead O’Connor Weighs in Heavy on Trayvon Martin Injustice

What affects one, affects us ALL.

The outrage this past week over the injustice of the Trayvon Martin murder case, has left most us us quite unsettled emotionally, to say the least. Day after day we have all been bombarded by countless scores of emotionally fueled editorials, blogs & the like, overflowing  with vented thoughts & expressions their views on every angle. Rightfully so, no doubt!

But I’m not about to do that right now. I “can”t.”

Or, perhaps I should say:  I’m choosing not to..at leasat .not yet. I just find it difficult to write when something is fresh like this. I need moment for the reality of it all to sink in, so it can to marinate deep within my soul because I dont like writing canned speeches or predictable pieces littered w/the typical emotional appeals. I wanna write about it freestyle, with clarity and pour out everything I have absorbed from my inner depths.  But with all that I’m going through personally right now, I’m just not ready. So I’ll continue to do what I know is most effective until then: continue to raise awareness of the injustice & what’s going on, and most of all, intercede & pray that God hold the Marin family’s heart together…give them strength & comfort them through all this …and that righteous judgement be served on a silver & gold platter!

Now the REAL purpose for this particular blog was due to this incredible write-up I found on Sinead O’Connor’s website.  I’ve always respected her for her unapologetic individuality & equally unique talent as an artist in the music industry.  But upon reading how she weighed in on the injustice of Trayvon Martin’s case with OUTSTANDING insight, No way I could pass up sharing this:

22.03.12 Treyvon Martin

“I would like to extend my very deepest sympathies to the family and other loved ones of murdered teenager, Treyvon Martin. I am very sad today (and am certain the whole of Ireland is) to learn of poor Treyvon’s terrifying ordeal and horrified by the fact his known and named and admitted killer has not been arrested, despite the crime having taken place a month ago. This is a disgrace to the entire human race.

For those out there who believe black people to be less than pure royalty, let me inform you of a little known, but scientifically proven, many times over, FACT. Which after reading, you will hopefully feel both very stupid and very sorry. For you dishonor your own mothers and grandmothers.

EVERY human being on earth, no matter what their culture, creed, skin colour, or nationality, shares one gene traceable back to one African woman. Scientists have named it ‘The Eve Gene’. This means ALL of us, even ridiculously stupid, ignorant, perverted, blaspheming racists are the descendants of one African woman.

One African woman is the mother of all of us. Africa was the first world. You come from there! Your skin may be ‘white’.. because you didn’t need it to be black any more where you lived. But as Curtis Mayfield said.. “You’re just the surface of our dark, deep well”. So you’re being morons. And God is having the last laugh at your ignorant expense.

If you hate black people, its yourself you hate. And the mother who bore you. If you kill or wish ill on black people, its yourself you kill and wish ill on. As well as the mother who bore you.

When you dishonor the the utter glory and majesty of black people, you lie. Your heart lies to you and you let it. Despite seeing every day, all your life, how you and your country would be less than wonderfully functioning and inspiring to the world, without the manifold and glorious contributions made by the descendants of African slaves, who did not by the way actually ask to go to America and leave their future families there to be disrespected for eternity….”
